Box Office Report 25th April 2012
This week sees the release of Priyadarshan’s Anil, Ajay and Kangana starrer, TEZZ, along with LIFE KI TOH LAG GAYI. Given the star power of TEZZ the film will obviously open better, though surprisingly it lacks the expected hype. With the moderate budgeted well made films (HATE STORY & VICKY DONOR) doing well, there is a lot of hopes riding on LIFE KI TOH LAG GAYI, and so it may just spring a surprise!
It was one of the happiest weekends (20-22 April) of 2012 for Bollywood as not only did HOUSEFULL 2 become the second 100 crore plus netter of the year (after AGNEEPATH), but it also saw two successes simultaneously- VICKY DONOR and HATE STORY. While VICKY DONOR netted around 7.50 crores, HATE STORY grabbed 7 crore! Given that VICKY DONOR has a total cost of 11 crore and HATE STORY 7 crore, both the films will get into the plus zone by the end of the first week itself! Additionally VICKY DONOR has managed surprisingly good numbers (for a starless film) in the overseas grossing £40,250 from UK and $ 1,69,200 from the US during the opening weekend (20-22 April).
Moving on, Wide Frame Pictures and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures’ BITTOO BOSS could not achieve anything significant at the ticket window as it collected 30 lakhs from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 6 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 2.15 lakhs from Surat, 2 lakhs from Baroda, 2.25 lakhs from Pune, 1.25 lakhs from Nasik, 35 lakhs from Delhi city, 5.50 lakhs from Noida, 3.35 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1.50 lakhs from Kanpur, 2.75 lakhs from Lucknow, 6.55 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1 lakh from Faridabad, 2.20 lakhs from Chandigarh, 5 lakhs from Calcutta, 2.20 lakhs from Nagpur, 1 lakh from Jabalpur, 1.65 lakhs from Raipur, 3 lakhs from Indore, 4 lakhs from Jaipur, 1 lakh from Kota, 1 lakh from Udaipur, 3.35 lakhs from Hyderabad and 4.50 lakhs from Bangalore.
