10 The Best Performances Of Actresses in Bollywood Movies
In last two decades, Bollywood made so many hit movies, several got national and international awards. Here is list of the 10 best performances perfomed by various actresses in bollywood movies in last 20 years. I have tried to do complete justice with each actress's work. There may be several actresses but i am only going to rank up to 10 top actresses.
10. Kangana in Fashion (as Shonali Gujral):
Kangana as the supermodel Shonali was first rate in fashion. She played a role of a model who had all the material things in the world one could wish for but she missed being loved and craved for the emotional support from her loved ones. She looked every bit of a supermodel in the film and rocked the runway with her tigress walk. Best Scene: The scene where she is found sitting at a roadside, mentally disturbed. Your heart goes out to her. Again she emoted more through her expressions with no dialogues. And later when she dies because of drug overdose, she made it so believable.
09. Konkana Sen Sharma in Page 3 (as Madhvi):
Winning a National Award for her very first film, Mr. and Mrs. Iyer, Konkana forayed into mainstream Hindi cinema as a Page 3 Journo in this Bhandarkar film. Her character is sick and tired of interviewing fake, high society hypocrites and she turn to crime journalism for creative satisfaction. She isn’t the regular Hindi Film Actress. She is not OTT and actually knows when to stop and this helped her character look much more real.Best Scene: Where she finds her Boyfriend in a compromising situation with her friend. She is heartbroken, we know, but she does not go OTT like a Hindi film actress is supposed to do.
08. Karisma in Dil Toh Pagal Hai (as Nisha):
Karisma as Nisha was Flawless. It is her best performance so far. She was playing a supporting character and for me, she had more impact than Madhuri. That says a lot about her performance. We have seen a lot of heartbreak on screen and we have gone through them in our personal lives too. But Karisma as Nisha was something else; she made it look so believable and all you want to do is give her a hug. Best Scene: Nisha is sitting heartbroken by the lake and then throwing stones in the sky and yelling “Main Buri nahi hoon, Tum (God) bure ho” (I’m not bad, you (God) are bad). Goosebumps anyone??
07. Madhuri in Devdas (as Chandramukhi)
Madhuri immortalized the character of Chandramukhi by her performance in Bhansali's Devdas. Again the role was of a supporting character, but she clearly was the star of the film. She played the role of a golden hearted courtesan wo falls in love with Devdas. The best part was to see Chandramukhi love Devdas unconditionally, when she knew she’s not going to get the same love in return. Best Scene: Her encounter with Paro (played by Aishwariya). She clearly steals the show from Aishwariya by her superb screen presence and impeccable dialogue delivery. And she looks so gorgeous.
06. Aishwariya in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (as Nandini)
Aishwariya made a million hearts skip a beat with her fine performance in this film. Many of you would be of the opinion, that Devdas is her best work so far, but I feel her performance was much more heartfelt in this one. She made the whole journey of Nandini, from a simple girl who falls in love with an NRI to a matured wife who travels to Italy to meet her first love, even more believable with her effective performance. Best Scene: The Parting scene where Salman is leaving the house and she helplessly watch him go and then vents out her anger at herself breaking the glass chandelier.
05. Priyanka in Fashion (as Meghna Mathur)
“Model Ban na chahti ho??… jee nahi, SUPERMODEL” (You want to become a model??... No, a SUPERMODEL.) That is Meghna’s confidence and her drive to make it big in the Fashion World. Undoubtedly, Priyanka’s best so far. From a Shabby looking wannabe from a small town to a supermodel who works on her own terms, Piggy Chops got is bang-on. She gave in all that the character demanded of her.Best Scene: Definitely the one where she wakes up realizing she had casual sex with a random guy at the club as she was so drunk. The way she rubs the tissue on her face sitting in front of the mirror is unbelievable. She emoted so much through her eyes and with no dialogues.
04. Kajol in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (as Anjali):
“Kuch Kuch hota hai Rahul, tum nahi samjhoge”. Kajol’s best performance so far. She efficiently played two different avatars in the film – as a tomboy in the first half who falls in love with her best friend and as a heartbroken girl in the second half who is getting married to a guy she does not love. She made a million heart cry with her impeccable performance. Best Scene: Remember Anjali in that white salwar kameez and red dupatta? I am sure you do and you too must have shed a few tears watching her part ways with her first love.
03. Tabu in Chandni Bar (as Mumtaz)
Tabu as Mumtaz was gorgeous. As a girl who is raped by her uncle and then forced into prostitution, she was terrific, probably her best so far. From her attire to her body language, everything was flawless. As a protective mother, who just wants to give a normal life to her children, she got all our sympathies. Best Scene: The climax scene where she watches her daughter get into prostitution and her son into a criminal and can't do anything about it. The end was depressing and you feel for Mumtaz. That is the impact of her performance.
02. Kareena in Jab We Met (as Geet):
It is very easy to work in a heroine oriented film and gain accolades for it. Rarely do we see an actress gets better reviews than the actor in a commercial film. Kareena got this with Jab We met. Kareena as the feisty motor mouthed girl from Bhatinda was a treat to watch. Geet was over the top and constantly blabbering in the film and yet no one complained. She displayed a completely different side of her character in the second half, where Aditya finds out that she has been dumped by her boyfriend. Best Scene: Probably the scene where she misses the train and yells at Shahid “Koi doubt mat rakhna, Sikhni hoon main bhatinda ki”. Her comic timing is superb and she just exudes confidence throughout and made her character so lovable.
01. Rani Mukherjee in Black (as Michelle):
This Bhansali Film is a milestone in Rani’s career and also one of the best performances by an actress ever. Rani was flawless in her portrayal of a physically challenged girl. From her expressions, top her sign language to her body language, she was just amazing and unbelievable. The way she culminates from a spoilt child to a fine lady is superb and her not losing her faith in herself and constantly trying to get better after failing was inspiring. Best Scene: The Rani – Amitabh Kiss scene. Michelle was a girl who longed for physical love throughout her life and rani was just beyond words in this scene. The way she throws herself on Amitabh so that she can get him into kissing her was applaud worthy. This is what real actresses are made of.
